What a story!

In our story The Chimpanzees of Happy Town, we heard about Chutney who helped create a colourful happy town for some sad chimpanzees. Today Mr Walker told the children the Creation Story which is a very important story for many people of different faiths.

Mr Walker is a very good story teller...as you can tell by the concentration on the children's faces!

The children then used the Fotopedia Wild Friends app on the iPads to look at detailed photographs of things found in the natural world such as plants, animals and sea creatures. They then chose something that they are thankful for.

What a wonderful world we live in!

World Book Day!

Today is World Book Day and the children in Year 1 have brought a favourite book in from home to share with their friends. There is lots of talk about characters, illustrations, favourite pages and events.

We had lots of fun sharing our books with our friends!

I liked Havana's book because one of the pirates saw a crocodile. Jersey
I liked Lucas's book because the caterpillar turns into a beautiful butterfly. Callum
I like Keira's book because I like the pictures in it. Mia
I like My new sister book because I have got a new sister. Millie

What town would you like to create?

We have been reading a fabulous book called The Chimpanzees of Happy-town.

We created the boring grey houses from the start of the story. No colour, no flowers, no fun!

On Friday morning Mr Walker found a colourful box...what could be inside?

It was a magic seed! We planted it and sprinkled it with glitter to see what would happen...

Look what had happened by Monday morning...

The children were very excited and are looking forward to watching it grow!
Here it is Tuesday morning...

Keep checking the blog to see what happens next!

Writing for a purpose

We shared a wonderful book called Beegu during our work on Space.
There is a youtube video of someone reading this story so you can enjoy it too!

www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjOdj9yuYaw

I told the children that they would be writing their own story about Beegu to read to the children in Foundation. The children knew it had to be their neatest writing with beautiful pictures because the Foundation children would be looking at their books!

On the last day of term the children felt nervous and excited as we went down to read our stories!

The children read their stories beautifully and felt very proud to be sharing them with a real audience. I was very proud of them all and the Foundation staff said how grown up they all are now!

We can't use lion's tails!

Winnie the witch had been invited to a party and she had to wear a hat that was 3 lion tails tall. We have been learning to measure so this was an easy job for us!

We thought that the hat was a bit tall but we had used lion tails so it should be ok!

Winnie was a bit cross because everyone else's hat was much shorter! It turned out that they had used a different lion!

Winnie found a spell in her Big Book of Spells that would fix this problem!
Wing of bat, fur of cheetah,
Turn these lion tails into centimetres!

We had fun learning to use a ruler to measure objects in centimetres!

Some children were up for a challenge and went on to draw lines that were a certain number of centimetres long...

No more mix ups with lion tails for us!
